What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses sedative medications to help children feel more safe and comfortable while they're getting dental treatment. This is particularly useful for kids who may have dental anxiety, and for children with special needs.
With the sedation options available at The Baby Teeth Studio, your child can feel more relaxed, calm, and comfortable during their procedure. Whether it’s a simple teeth cleaning or a more involved procedure like getting a dental filling, your child can get the care they need from Dr. Jennifer Villalta (Dr. Jen) without stress, fear, and anxiety. What To Expect From The Sedation Dentistry Process
Sedation consultation
First, you’ll come and meet with Dr. Jen. You’ll discuss your child’s health history, medications and supplements they're taking, and their dental anxiety. Together, you can choose the right type of sedation for your little one’s unique needs.
Treating your child
The specifics of their treatment will vary depending on the type of sedation you choose. During their appointment at The Baby Teeth Studio, our team will keep a close eye on your little one to ensure their comfort and safety. Your child will be in good hands with Dr. Jen and our team!
Aftercare and recovery
Laughing gas stops working after just a few minutes, but it can take a couple of hours for oral sedation and deep sleep sedation to wear off. Dr. Jen will give you instructions on how to care for your kiddo as they recover from their procedure.
Types Of Dental Sedation We Offer
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation
In this type of sedation, your little one will breathe a mixture of laughing gas and oxygen through a nose mask. They will feel relaxed, “floaty” and disconnected from what’s happening around them, but they will be completely conscious and able to respond to questions and commands.
Oral conscious sedation
This is a deeper type of sedation that uses pills or liquid sedative medications. Your child will take their medication before their appointment, and it will make them feel very groggy and tired. They may even fall asleep or forget what happens during their appointment at The Baby Teeth Studio.
General anesthesia
We work with a board-certified anesthesiologist to provide general anesthesia sedation to kids. With this type of sedation, your child will sleep soundly throughout their entire procedure and won’t have any memory of what happened during their appointment with Dr. Jen.
